The Blessed Poppy

The Blessed Poppy

I am sorry that I missed the Flanders Fields remembrance day Poppy. Poppy day arrived, as usual I was a day late and a dollar short. I drove a tanker truck out of Tucson, Arizona for a few years, a truck similar to this one. I hauled gasoline, diesel fuel and aircraft fuel to almost all of southern and eastern Arizona. Summer got to be so hot in the desert, there were very few blossoms of any kind to be found. But in the spring if spring rains fell abundantly that desert comes alive with hundreds of different desert flowers. The one flower that I loved to see in the spring was the Poppy.

This one area from Wilcox, Arizona, north up to Safford was one spot that was solid poppies. I remember in the year 1972, there were poppies as far as the eye could see in any direction. If I remember correctly poppies that year bloomed all the way east to Morenci and Clifton Arizona. I wish I would have had a modern-day camera to have taken pictures with. Arizona offers some of the best photographic opportunities in the United States.
