Senate Style Sausage

Sausage making has been going on for centuries. Parts of an animal that is not very appealing, fat and scraps from processing that animal are all ground together and seasoned to create a sausage product. Our highly honorable legislature in Washington, D.C. has been compared to sausage making throughout the years.

I have been watching some legislative action on C-Span which made me think of the correlation between that and sausage making.

The lawmakers from each party try to expound on their parties righteousness and the finer points on why they consider a legislative bill should be passed or not passed. Each one flavors his speech with different degrees of expertise, and or BS, knowledge, and assorted hyperbole. The goal is to expound on every reason to vote in favor are not in favor of their Bill. They keep up this self-righteous charade until it is finely ground and over seasoned, sometimes HOT. There is little consequence if it should pass, the other branch is ready to kill anything the crosses their threshold.

The new legislative process is so divided there is nothing they can get done, neither side will give, they both practice ‘it’s my way or the highway.’ They have set a record of getting nothing done to help move the country forward in this ever-shrinking world.

I am seriously thinking about becoming an Independent Vegan.

The Federal Reserve Bank.

The Federal Reserve

I watched Paul Krugman interviewing Janet Yellen about the Federal Reserve on C-SPAN the other day. I felt like sharing my views about the Federal Reserve and the nation’s economy after watching that program.

For more than 20 years it made no difference who the chairman of the Federal Reserve was. It now appears their job has been to destroy the backbone of the United States. Lower income People and Senior Citizens who tried to save money, non-profits, perpetual care funds, and small churches built these United States, made it strong. Why did they have to pay the price for the Federal Reserve’s love affair, serving Wall Street investors?

The survival of these different groups depended on interest earned from savings on small sums of money. With near 0%, for twenty years none of them can survive,  This leads me to believe it was designed, planned to destroy the American economy.

Today the government runs on more borrowed money every day, unsustainable debt seems to be the goal. The banks are giving everyone with a mailing address credit cards. They are expected to go out and buy everything possible, as fast as they can. It looks like this was done to bring the country down with debt.

We must all ask, will a new world order be worth the cost we have to pay?

The current chairman of the Federal Reserve is Jerome Powell. He was confirmed by President Trump to replace Janet Yellen. Prior to Janet Yellen’s term, Ben Bernanke and Alan Greenspan we’re Federal Reserve chairman.

Alan Greenspan served five terms as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, he took office as chairman on August 11, 1987, appointed by four different presidents, his last term ended on January 31, 2006. Near zero interest rates started being paid to savers under Alan Greenspan’s time at the Federal Reserve and has continued to the present day.

I believe we may still have one hope. The new lawmakers coming into office in Washington DC could put their heads together and start to reverse what has been happening. I hope they do, for the survival of the nation.

The Apostle’s Creed

I just finished watching the funeral ceremony for George H. W. Bush. I heard “the end of an era” mentioned once or twice. With Brian Mulroney and Senator Alan Simpson speaking there had to be a flavor of, end of an era. They both knew and appreciated President Bush. It does seem like the end of an era as this great man was both President and Patriot. The youngest Navy pilot, enlisting in the Navy in World War II before attending college. He spent his entire life in service to his country along with being the president.

I would hope everyone in this country learns from President George H. W. Bush’s life of service. It was all based on and grew out of a life that was well lived, a life of faith and love for his fellow man.

Toward the end of the funeral ceremony, all the living presidents were sitting side-by-side in the front pew of the church, across from the Bush family members. The part of the service started where the Apostles Creed was recited. I noticed the current president’s lips were not moving.

Arrow

Arrow

Stone-tipped projectile weapons found in Africa are believed to be 71000 years old. Otzi, the oldest natural mummy was killed by an arrow.

In the 12th century, the crossbow came into existence and it changed battles and warfare considerably. It put fear into the hearts of noblemen who were always protected by heavy armor. A bolt or arrow fired from the crossbow could penetrate armor.

In the 16th century, the widespread use of gunpowder was supposed to make the bow and arrow obsolete.

Modern archers have numerous styles of bows and arrows for hunting and target shooting. If you are handicapped today and unable to use regular archery equipment, you can apply for a crossbow permit for hunting. Crossbows shoot a short Arrow called a bolt they will go through a deer or elk.

Grandpa’s Pull-Ups

Grandpa’s Pull-Ups

If you are like me and have arm weakness from a spinal cord injury, you may do as I do and ask your spouse or caregiver to pull up your briefs and pants several times a day. I have finally discovered a way to regain some of my independence. I can still stand up with a walker. This could also work standing in front of a wheelchair.

I have exercise pulleys on a door to keep my arm strength and motion range alive. I still have a weakness when it comes to pulling up my pants all the way. I solved the problem by poking a hole in the waistband in the back of a brief. I run a piece of 1/4 X 40-inch nylon rope through the hole, then double the rope and tie a slip knot at the end.

I stand under my exercise pulley and insert the wooden handle on one end of the rope through the double slip knot loop. Image result for ROPE knots

I then pull down on the other end of the rope which pulls the brief or pants up, slip the wooden handle back out of the double loop, pull the slip knot loose and remove the 40-inch rope from the back of the brief or pair of pants. With briefs, a hole in the waistband is no problem but with a pair of pants, you could fashion a buttonhole in the center of the back waistband to protect the material.

This is not a perfect solution but I have found that it works and gets the job done instead of bothering my wife constantly to pull my britches up. If you come to our house to visit there still is a chance that you might accidentally get mooned. With a spinal cord injury, many Simple Things become impossible and everything takes longer to do.
