And my memories of this lake are counseling at a Methodist summer camp there and scaring the minister by driving too fast on the way home!!!! Angel and devil.

I think you must have been a great counselor. If you ever get a chance, visit that place now, millions have been spent there. Our grandson bought our cabin and tore it down, sad to watch but taxes and other costs got crazy. He will park a motor home there when he uses it. Poinsett is a nice lake, hope the cheese plant up stream doesn’t kill it.

Leland Olson, why I mixed my name up with my Norwegian name Hoel I don’t know? Maybe I should just use my name, huh? Did you have relatives near ClearLake or Castlewood? I went to school in Castlewood with a Dykstra.

Yes…Their name was Sikkink but my grandmother’s sister also married a man name Dykstra who lived around there. (Both sisters married Dykstras.)

It is a small world, yes I’m very familiar with both of those names. I went to high school in Castlewood before I got to smart for school and enlisted in the Air Force. I mainly remember those girls were from Christian Reformed families and they did not wear makeup or go to the dances. They were all very nice people. We got together after games at Langenfelds Cafe, but there were lines that didn’t get crossed.

Yes.. my grandparents were Dutch Reform but the closest they could get in the part of S.Dak we were from was Methodist!

There was a little Dutch Christian Reformed church mid way between the two towns. I thought it had been there for many years. A kalsbeck girl was in my class too.

It wouldn’t hurt to put your real name somewhere unless you are under witness protection–or sign it to comments. I am terrible at remembering names…horrible! I search and search and then just call people by their blog names but that always feels sort of cold.
And Leland is an unusual name–not east to remember.

Leland Gary Olson my name is in my profile, I thought that is what opened to the public, not in my case.I wonder if I have my blog site set up wrong. I just went to Google and typed lghoelson and it took me to mymixedblog WordPress.com . I thought when someone looks for me my profile page opens but I guess it doesn’t. After my mixed blog page opened, I clicked on my picture in the upper right-hand corner and that took me to my profile page. Does that sound backward to you? When I first signed up I ended up with two different sites and I’m not using one, of that probably messed it all up. Maybe a better pay the $18 and try to get things squared away. Thanks for any suggestions still pretty much a newbie here.

We spent close to 40 years there very good fishing lake for walleyes, perch and many others species. The maximum depth is just under 30 feet when the lake is full. Many dry years causes it to lose water, then its prime for a winter kill if the ice is covered with lots of snow. Good thing that doesn’t happen very often. Our grandson is retiring from the Army next year he bought the place from us and tore it down. Since he can’t be here full-time that was a smart business move. When he does come he can park a motor home and enjoy the place just as much as if there were a cabin there. It started costing way to much to be standing there and not used. There are usually places for sale, a new sewer requirement caused more to go on the market. What the heck, when your sneakers wear out move there.

I own a motorhome that is stored in Tombstone, AZ…just down the street from the OK Corral. Me and your son could be neighbors!!

When we lived in Tucson I hunted out by Tombstone. Our grandson gets out of the Army next year. He remarried has to keep punching the clock. I drove tanker truck in Arizona a few years, delivered fuel to the bottom of the mine at Bisbee even
